Third Bibb County Jail Escapee Captured in Augusta
Three of the four inmates who escaped from the Bibb County Jail in mid-October are now behind bars, with the latest captured in Augusta this morning.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, along with the FBI, captured 37-year-old Johnifer Dernard Barnwell at a home on Alpine Drive in Richmond County at 8:00 this morning.
Authorities say they also found large quantities of drugs in the home, possibly intended for trafficking. According to previous law enforcement reports, Barnwell was in custody for his involvement in a drug trafficking organization.
Barnwell, Chavis Stokes, Joey Fournier and Marc Anderson escaped from the Bibb County Jail near Macon on October 16. The four climbed through a broken window, then cut a fence and escaped in a waiting vehicle. The getaway car was found several days later, but the search for the escapees continued .
Stokes and Anderson Were Already in Custody
Stokes was found first October 26 at a home in Montezuma. Anderson was found in Fulton County in early November.
Fournier Remains At-Large
With Barnwell’s arrest in Augusta this morning, only Fournier remains at-large. The 52-year-old inmate was in custody for murder of his former girlfriend, Cynthia Berry, in 2022 in Macon.
