We welcome a new month, November, on Wednesday. Daily high temperatures are expected to be about 8 degrees colder each day than October, while the overnight lows are about 7 degrees colder. According to weather statistics, the Augusta area rarely sees high temperatures above 81 degrees or below 52 degrees in November. As for daily low temperatures, rarely does Augusta see overnight temperatures dip below 32 degrees.
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, Augusta typically records its first frost of the year anytime between November 1 and November 10.
Speaking of frost, don’t forget annual plants that fruit and flower in warm temperatures don’t like the cold. It’s best to cover them up if the temperature is expected to dip into the low 30s. Old blankets, bedspreads and towels are great for creating a small dome of insulation. Don’t forget to remove the covers by mid-day, however, so plants don’t overheat.
As for winter, in general, the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting that temperatures will be above normal with the coldest periods arriving in late December and again in early February. The best chances for snow this winter will be in late January and mid-February.
