Augusta Animal Services Scam
So. we’ve heard from our friends at Augusta Animal Services about a scam that’s currently in play in the area and they are NOT involved.
Here are the details of the Augusta Animal Services scam…
They have had a lot of people fall victim to this scam. People who have lost dogs are being contacted, sometimes over the phone, sometimes by text and being told that their pet is at Augusta Animal Services and that they will need to pay a fee to get their pet back. The person over the phone tells them that cash or the payment apps will work.
Augusta Animal Services wants the public to know that they DO NOT TAKE ANY PAYMENTS OVER THE PHONE.
To make the situation worse, when called, the caller ID identifies as “Augusta Animal Services” and displays their phone number, 706-790-6836
Should you receive a call like this, AAS is requesting that you call the Sheriff’s Department…in Richmond County, that’s 706-821-1080
