Home Invasion Suspect Shot by Homeowner in Grovetown, Critical
A Grovetown man fired at least one shot at one of two home invasion suspects early this morning in Grovetown, leaving him in critical condition.
Grovetown Public Safety Chief Jamey Kitchens says several 911 calls were received from residents in the 9000 block of Battle Court in Grovetown at 4:20 a.m. They said someone was banging on doors in the neighborhood. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies joined public safety officers in responding to the area. Officers heard a single gun shot, then heard a male calling for help in the back yard of a home on Battle Court. They found Jordan Jackson suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers began lifesaving measures and Jackson was transported to a local hospital where he’s in critical condition.
Officers were approached by the homeowner, Jahlil Lawrence, who said he had observed Jackson and one other person on his home security system trying to enter his patio door and a rear window. Both were wearing masks and were armed with handguns. Officers searched the area and found a gun and cell phone on the ground near a window as well as a mask next to Jackson. Home security footage from other homes on nearby Reynolds Way showed Jackson and one other person, identified as Demond Livingston, with their faces covered and armed with handguns.
Livingston was found sitting in a parked vehicle with a South Carolina tag on Reynolds Way. Investigators say he matched the description of the second suspect and had a gun in his possession. Livingston admitted to authorities he had traveled from Columbia, South Carolina with Jackson, but provided no other information.
Livingston was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Attempt (Home Invasion) and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. Jackson will be charged with Criminal Attempt (Home Invasion), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Jackson also has several outstanding warrants through South Carolina. Jackson will be taken to the Columbia County Detention Center once he’s released from the hospital.
