Augusta Golf Show Conversation About McLemore
Even if you play golf often, all around, there’s a chance you have NOT heard about McLemore.
This week, former professional golfer and Golf Channel broadcaster Charlie Rymer joined me on the golf show to talk about McLemore. Charlie is an Executive Vice President with the company that owns the resort.
Where Is McLemore?
Let’s begin by telling WHERE McLemore is. It’s in the Georgia mountains, specifically Rising Fawn, Ga. Rising Fawn is a small, unincorporated community in the southern part of Dade County. It’s part of the Chattanooga metro area. It’s also the location of the Cloudland Canyon State Park. Rising Fawn was named after the child of a Cherokee Indian chieftain. The custom was to name a child after the first thing seen. On the following day, the chief saw a fawn rise from its bed, and that’s how it became Rising Fawn, Georgia.
By the way, it’s also at the top of a mountain. A group of us went there a couple of years ago. The hotel, Cloudland, had not yet begun construction, so we stayed in a beautiful home in one of the wonderful neighborhoods. We played the one course that existed at the time and all of us had a wonderful experience. As you will hear from my conversation with Charlie, since our visit, an incredible new hotel, Cloudland, has just opened, and construction is well underway on a second golf course.
How Do You Get To McLemore?
From Augusta, it’s about a four- and half-hour drive, and a little over 250 miles away. If you log on to one of the websites, www.hilton.com, and take a look at the hotel, you’ll see that not only is it a wonderful golfing experience for a guys trip, but that it’s also a wonderful destination for couples. Charlie talks about the various activities that are available.
