Are We Closer To Watching The Atlanta Braves?
Are we any closer to being able to watch the Atlanta Braves?
Not sure, but here’s the latest. If you subscribe to Comcast’s Xfinity cable service then you know, the Braves were removed at the beginning of May. Both Comcast and Bally Sports are arguing about money, and both are blaming the other for what has taken place.
Why can’t we watch the Atlanta Braves?
One report is saying that Major League Baseball has run out of patience with Bally’s parent company, Diamond Sports. Reports are Major League Baseball is having to create new arrangements for the 12 teams available on Bally’s regional sports networks, and that included Bally South and the Atlanta Braves.
Is there a timeline for getting to watch the Atlanta Braves?
Diamond Sports is due back in bankruptcy court on June 18th. MLB is asking for that hearing to be postponed. The NBA and NHL have also voiced concerns that without Comcast there’s just too much uncertainty for them to approve of Diamond exiting bankruptcy. Both the NBA and NHL have long term deals with Diamond Sports. While this is new for Comcast, those of us that watch our TV on You Tube TV have been experiencing this for the last couple of years.
Judge Christopher Lopez has declined MLB’s request to reschedule the June 18th confirmation hearing and has remained optimistic, saying that Diamond has accomplished plenty and that it deserves to try and play out its endgame, while acknowledging the concerns by the partner leagues.
So, while the courtroom drama plays out, we are still left with the possibility of seeing the Braves, unless it’s one of the rare times they’re either on FOX, FS1 or EPSN.
Getting this rectified hinge on Diamond Sports’ ability to make a new carriage deal with Comcast, and if it doesn’t it can expect a lot of opposition from Major League Baseball and the NBA and NHL.
So, one step forward, two steps back, and still no joy for Braves fans.
