Pizza and beer, it's not an unusual combination. But what if someone offered you a pizza beer, as in, a pizza-flavored beer? That's the latest collaboration between a Colorado brewery and Tombstone, the frozen pizza brand.

Colorado Brewery And Pizza Brand Team Up For Pizza-Flavored Beer

According to the Denver Post, New Belgium Brewing Co. is teaming up with the frozen pizza company to create a new IPA. This new combination is a variation of New Belgium's Voodoo Ranger India pale ale. The 7% ABV beer is set to release on Sunday, April 7th, which also happens to be National Beer Day. The brewery's website says the pizza-flavored beer has notes of “Tombstone’s crispy crust, tangy tomato sauce, and savory herbs and spices.” The flavor is rounded out with a bit of pepperoni-inspired heat. They also do a little play on "IPA" by inserting "Pizza" in there.

Unfortunately, the only way to get the pizza-flavored beer is to visit New Belgium's brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado. But, the brewery is running a contest where you have a chance to win a four-pack of the flavor. The contest is going from now until April 7th on their website.

Other Interesting Alcohol Flavors

Pizza-flavored beer isn't the first interesting flavor combination when it comes to alcoholic beverages. One of the first to come to mind was the pickle-flavored hard seltzer that was released last year for a limited time. While I enjoy a hard seltzer here and there, and I do like dill pickles, I'm not sure that I would have enjoyed those two together.

What about beer and breakfast? Back in 2019, Smartmouth Brewing Company in Virginia had a Lucky Charms-themed IPA. It was called "Saturday Morning," an IPA with marshmallows. And the tagline was, "Magically Ridiculous." According to Esquire, the company used toasted marshmallows and cereal marshmallows in the mash. The flavor was meant to be reminiscent of those Saturday mornings watching cartoons while eating sugary cereal.

And how about a hot dog seltzer? Back in 2022, Martin House Brewing Company in Texas created a hard seltzer with leftover hot dog water. It was called Bun Length and made its debut at the Glizzy Fest, which was a five-hour "Celebration of Hotdogs". The brewery apparently was no stranger to interesting flavor combinations, which they experimented with on their beers.

Some of the brewery's other experiments included salsa verde and mustard pickle. And it seems they haven't slowed down. A look at their social media will show their interesting flavor releases, which include: Puppy Chow, Cheesy Bay Biscuits, Lobster Pie, and many more!

As for Martin House Brewing Company's latest contribution to Glizzy Fest... Mustard Beer.

Flavored Beer - Should It Stay Or Should It Go?

I don't know about you, but the wide variety of flavor options is overwhelming at times.  While I don't drink beer, even hard seltzers are going crazy experimenting with various flavors. Sometimes you have to wonder why they don't just stick with what they know.

And honestly, some of the flavors they come up with really don't sound great at all.  That leaves you to wonder if they are just doing it to get attention back on their brand.  That doesn't sound too far-fetched. Then again, some brands are just known for being out there and doing crazy things.

As for me, you probably won't find me sipping any flavor of beer... And only a limited few hard seltzers. Nothing crazy flavored though! My go-to drink of choice is a Cayman Jack Margarita. And I also enjoy a Mike's Harder Lemonade from time to time.  You guys can have all the funky flavors!

5 Unique Ways To Make A Healthier Pizza

Pizza is quite possibly the most popular food in the world. It's something that is enjoyed in a variety of ways. There are so many styles and toppings to choose from. And pizza is also something that you'll find at a variety of events or celebrations. It's a food that can easily feed a bunch of people, and can often be eaten without the use of utensils. Whether it's a birthday party, watching sports, or just a typical Friday night dinner, pizza is a crowd-pleaser. But if you're watching what you eat, it's not always the best option. The good news is, there are ways to make a healthier pizza. Check out some ideas below!

History Of Pizza

According to History.com, pizza has a long history dating back to ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. The original idea was flatbread with toppings. But the pizza as we know it today, originated in Naples, Italy. The area was a waterfront city that was thriving but full of the poor working class. They needed fast, inexpensive food options, pizza was the perfect solution.

The pizzas in Naples were flatbreads with toppings similar to what we see today: tomatoes, cheese, oil, anchovies, and garlic. Surprisingly, pizza didn't catch on in Italy until the late 1940s but quickly became popular in the United States thanks to Italian immigrants. The first pizzeria was G. Lombardi's in Manhattan, which was licensed to sell pizza in 1905. From there, the popularity of pizza only grew. And since then, we've seen so many people create their own take on the beloved food, from the type of crust, how it's cooked, and the topping options.

Customizing Your Pizza

There are so many ways to enjoy pizza. It comes in a variety of sizes, whether you're eating alone or feeding a large party. And you have options when it comes to the type of crust too. There's deep dish, pan crust, thin crust, gluten-free, and more. Once you decide on your crust, then comes an even tougher decision... Toppings.

Traditionally, pizza comes with marinara sauce, although some places give you other options for the sauce.  And most pizza comes with mozzarella cheese. But again, these are things you can choose to include or not. When it comes to what else goes on pizza, the choices are almost limitless. The most popular pizza topping is pepperoni.  And there are many other meat options you can add: ham, sausage, bacon, hamburger, etc. Vegetables are another category of toppings, with everything from onions, peppers, spinach, mushrooms, olives, and more. And for some people, you can even add fruit... because there's nothing like a great Hawaiian pizza with pineapple.

Healthier Pizza Options

Everywhere you turn, there is a wealth of "health" information and a lot of fad diets. There are also people with food allergies, which means they may not be able to enjoy traditional pizza. Thankfully, there are continually more and more options when it comes to enjoying a slice of pizza. More and more restaurants are catching on to the food restrictions of their patrons and offering more options. But if you're looking for a healthier pizza option when you're at home, check out these unique ways to make pizza!

Portobello Mushroom Pizza

Years ago, I decided to go gluten-free. This meant I was giving up a lot of my favorite things. At that point, I feel like there weren't nearly as many gluten-free options as we have now. So I searched the internet for a way to make pizza that I could enjoy without gluten. That's when I came across pizza on a portobello mushroom.  Now, many people are surprised that I actually like mushrooms since I'm a picky eater. But I don't mind them, as long as they are cooked.  I'd eaten small mushrooms in my mom's spaghetti my whole life, so I decided to give this a go.

I topped mine with a pizza sauce I made with tomato sauce and seasoning. And of course, there had to be CHEESE! To finish it off, I just added pepperoni as a topping. But just like any other pizza, you can top this one with whatever your heart desires!

Zucchini Pizza

There are two ways you can do zucchini pizzas.  You can cut them into slices or cut them long ways to have "zucchini pizza boats." This is another much healthier approach to pizza, cutting out the bread.  In my attempt to cut gluten, I did try this a time or two. But remember, I'm a picky eater and not a huge fan of zucchini.  So, this isn't my favorite way to make a healthier type of pizza.

Tortilla Pizza

I've done a version of this before, but not in the air fryer. This would make a really quick, healthier alternative to your traditional crust pizza. If you've got some tortillas, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni, you've got all you need for this. Pretty sure you could cook it on the stove top... think quesadilla!  But if you've got an air fryer, that works too!

Cream Cheese Pizza

Early on in my gluten-free journey, someone shared this recipe with me. And even if I wasn't gluten-free, this is still a delicious way to make pizza.

The crust is made from cream cheese, eggs, and parmesan cheese. See the full recipe here:

Cauliflower Crust Pizza

Honestly, I have never tried cauliflower crust pizza. I know it's an alternative for people who are gluten-free. But because I've never liked cauliflower, I've been really nervous to try it.  I know there are people who like it.  There are even frozen pizzas available now with cauliflower crust. If you're looking to make it at home though, this seems easy enough.
