Girl Scout Cookies All Year Long-It’s Possible
Let me start by saying that this is by no means a story that says to not buy Girl Scout Cookies. It’s just the opposite. Go buy all the Girl Scout Cookies you can get your hands on. Once they are gone, this story is going to help you have Girl Scout Cookies all year long.
Starting in early to mid-February, in just about every store you go to you see just the cutest bunch of young ladies selling cookies. Not just any cookies, but those amazing and tasty Girl Scout Cookies.
The selling of cookies began in 1910 according to Girlscouts.org. The cookies were baked by the girls with moms helping out. In 1917 after the first troop was founded in the United States, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, they baked cookies and sold them in their high school cafeteria as a service project.
What If We Could Get These Cookies Year Round?
Once Girl Scout Selling season is over, there are options to get copycat Girl Scout Cookies year-round and almost every grocery store you shop. Here are some of the copycat cookies you can get. In most cases, you can’t tell the difference.
Tagalongs
The Tagalongs are without a doubt the best Girl Scout Cookie made. Just my thought. I found a few years ago that you can get these year-round at Wal-Mart in their Great Value brand. To my surprise, they are just as good and I don’t think you could tell the difference in a blind taste test.
After doing some homework, I found that not only Walmart has a version, but so do Food Lion, and Dollar General under the Clover Valley brand. I’ve tried the Walmart and Dollar General brands and you can’t tell the difference. The best part is they are just about $2 a box
Thin Mints
The Thin Mints are one of the most popular and best-selling Girl Scout Cookie. I did find that Dollar General does carry a Fudge Mint Cookie under the Clover Valley Brand. I have not tried these, but I have to guess, they are pretty good.
The Trefoils
The iconic Girl Scout Shortbread cookie is another one of my favorites. While it’s not on the package, I do taste a bit of the pecan in these cookies. This led me to find many different brands that make this cookie. Food Lion, Publix, Walmart and Kroger. Again, You can get these year-round and at a cheaper price.
The Girl Scout S’Mores
Even before there was a Girl Scout S’mores, this was a favorite at every campfire everywhere. Now that it’s in a cookie, stop the presses. This is quickly becoming one of my new favorite cookie offerings from the scouts. Now finding this one in a store brand was a little hard but this is close. Dollar General offers a cookie that is really close. Not exact, but really close and really good
The Samoas
9 out of 10 people will tell you that the Samoa is the top of the top when it comes to Girl Scout Cookie flavor. It is pretty dang good. Now the copycat version of the Samoa seems to be everywhere. You can find it at Dollar General, Walmart, and Kroger. With this many options, you can keep the pantry stocked year-round.
The Lemon-ups
These are a different kind of cookie for me. I don’t love them and I don’t hate them. I like them the more I have ’em. Dollar General under the Clover Valley brand and Walmart both carry a version of the lemon-ups for year-round lovers.
So if Girl Scout Cookies are your thing and you can’t get enough, You now have options year-round. Please, do like I did and get out and support your Girl Scout troops and buy some cookies today. These store brands are here year round and you can buy them then. It’s also hard to pass up on those cute little kids out there in the cold selling these tasty treats.
