Train Derailment on Laney Walker Boulevard
A train derailment was reported this morning on the tracks on Laney Walker Boulevard between 5th Street and New Savannah Road.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the reported derailment at 7:09 a.m.
“Upon arrival, deputies observed there were no injuries or hazardous materials wasted by the derailment,” according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Extensive damage was done to the tracks and the road.
Avoid the Area of the Derailment
Motorists should avoid Laney Walker Boulevard at 5th Street and New Savannah Road, as well as Nowell Road for the next few days.
Officials say an investigation is underway, and for now, no other information is available.
