Great Food At One Of The Most Unusual Named Diners In South Carolina
You never know what you’ll find on a back road. I’ve probably passed this place a few times on some of my adventures through small towns near Augusta, GA, but I never thought about stopping. Mainly because, to be honest, it looks like an old, small convenience store, but this is one of the best diners In South Carolina.
Deer Corn
With signs outside like “deer corn for sale” and “lottery,” you don’t think about great food.
This time, I decided to stop because of all the work trucks in the parking lot at lunch. I’ve always said when you see a diner with a gravel parking lot full of worker’s trucks, it has to be good food. These workers come back a few times a week because they know they’ll get a good, reasonable meal.
Grandma’s Table
As I parked and walked toward the entrance to the porch, I noticed some firewood for sale, a lottery sign, and a few rocking chairs; one was an old upholstered chair. Once inside, I saw about eight workers sitting at a large table with an old-school red and white tablecloth (think Grandma’s table).
One by one, their order was called out, and they went to the counter to pick it up in a styrofoam container. Very simple. For the drinks, you have to get them yourself out of a cooler in the rear of the store. One Of The Best Diners In South Carolina
BLT
The food looked incredible, and I decided on a BLT with fries. The sandwich was excellent and loaded with bacon. I also ordered fries cooked when you ordered them, and they were hot and seasoned perfectly.
As I ate, I heard the workers talking about their work around the area and telling hunting stories, and a lady sat down next to me and had lunch while watching a video on her phone. Somehow, the digital world seemed out of place in this diner.
