Comfort Food And Great Ambiance – A Review Of The Feed Sack in North Augusta
Here’s a review of The Feed Sack in North Augusta.
So last Wednesday we were out, on a school night, running some errands and coming back home to cook wasn’t really the best use of our time, so, I’d been hearing good things about The Food Sack in Aiken and had heard that one had opened in North Augusta, so I suggested we try it out.
The Feed Sack – North Augusta
First, the location. The North Augusta location is on Hwy.25, or off I-20 at Exit 5 depending on which way you’re going. It’s in the same shopping complex as the Wal-Mart on Hwy 25.
Walking in, you can’t help but notice the ambience. It’s called the Feed Sack, the original is in Aiken, it’s going to have some sort of “barn/paddock” feel, and it does. I really liked the way it looked. Masculine. They don’t take reservations for smaller parties, but they do encourage you to call ahead and get your name on the list, which is what we did, so that when we arrived, we were immediately seated.
It was a little after 7pm on a Wednesday night and it was pretty busy. That’s one thing about us and this area, open up a new place to eat, and we’ll come.
Filling A Void
The marketer in me can’t resist trying to figure out why a restaurant exists. What’s the void it’s filling. What is it offering that you can’t get somewhere else. Here’s the conclusion I came to with regards to this restaurant. The void is simply the void of opening a locally owned restaurant in North Augusta. There are some VERY good ones, some of our favorites but there are not a lot of them. Having said that, the menu didn’t really have a theme to me. I did think most of the items had a “comfort food” feel about them.
Lisa doesn’t eat meat, so that’s always something to consider, especially when we’re trying a restaurant for the first time. She does eat fish, and there were a few choices available for her.
The Food
In the end we ended up ordering some pretzel sticks as an appetizer. I wanted a small house salad. She got the veggie burger and fries, and I got some wings. Her burger came with pimento cheese and the count of my wings was based on weight. Ended up being about 8 wings. She thought her burger was really good. My wings were good. I’m a bit of a blue cheese snob and I wished the blue cheese had been a little bit better, but it was still good.
When all was said and done, including tip, oh yea, she had a glass of wine, the bill came to $75.
Developing a restaurant, we like is a bit of a job because of her. If there are relatively few choices on the menu, she would always be getting the same thing as whereas I have no problem with that, she prefers a little variety. But we both said we’d go back.
One last thing, in telling someone that we went there, they commented about the bar, and about hearing how nice it was and how it was almost hidden. I had to agree with them as I never saw the bar while were there, eating in the main dining room.
Particulars… they are open Monday thru Saturday from 11am to 11pm. Nice that they’re open a little later at night.
The phone number is 803-341-9437.
