Sconyers An Augusta Tradition Like No Other
If you’ve lived in the CSRA for more than 5 minutes, you know about Sconyers an Augusta tradition like no other. Almost 20 years ago, Tee Gentry, on one of my first days here said, you’ve gotta go to Sconyers. Where did we go to lunch that day? Yes, Sconyers. What a day! As I’ve learned over the years, Sconyers means so much to Augusta.
People celebrate weddings, birthdays, deaths, engagements and so much more. Churches and civic groups alike have events catered and they do it for a good reason. It’s the best in town and the people from Sconyers are even better.
Background of Sconyers
Sconyers Bar-B-Que was founded in 1956. When Claude and Adeline Sconyers could no longer make a living farming they decided to give their hobby a try. With their children grown, they then opened Sconyers Bar-B-Que on Peach Orchard Road. The small restaurant became popular with the locals. Locals would come and enjoy pork bar-b-que and hash cooked to perfection. Claude and Adeline’s policy was simple: quality food, properly prepared, served in generous portions at a fair price. A policy that still rings true today. Larry Sconyers, Claude, and Adeline’s youngest son, took over after the death of his father.
Over the years, Sconyers’ Bar-B-Que has served on the White House lawn for President Jimmy Carter and members of Congress. It has even been served in Atlanta at the Georgia Capital, as well as, at many local and state events and kitchens all over the CSRA
It doesn’t matter if you come for the bar-b-que, the ribs, the hash and rice, or the potato salad, you will not walk away disappointed. This past weekend, I was out and about and my car just magically pulled into Sconyers just as it has many times over the almost 20 years of living in the CSRA.
