Man Just Arrested for Shoplifting Dies in Holding Cell in Columbia County
A man who had just been arrested for shoplifting at Walmart in Evans Saturday night, died hours later in a holding cell at the Columbia County Detention Center.
A news release from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Brandon Joyner was accused of stealing cans of compressed computer air and was taken into custody. A booking report was completed at 11:40 p.m.
Joyner was placed in a holding cell, where he was the lone occupant. Around 2 am, jail personnel found Joyner unresponsive.
“Jail personnel began to administer CPR and Narcan with negative results,” according to the news release.
EMS and firefighters arrived, but attempts to revive him failed. An autopsy will be scheduled.
