Nikki Haley Expected to Announce White House Bid February 15
Supporters of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley are expected to get an email invitation today to what is thought to be the launch of her 2024 presidential campaign.
The event will be held February 15 in Charleston, according to a person familiar with her plans who is not authorized to publicly comment on them.
The 51-year-old Haley served as South Carolina’s governor for 6 years before heading to Washington D.C. to serve as President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations. As it stands, Trump is the only Republican seeking his party’s presidential nomination in 2024, for now.
In 2021, Haley told the Associated Press she “wouldn’t run if President Trump ran,” but later said she was considering a run.
Trump, who was in Columbia, South Carolina Saturday to speak at a campaign event, said Haley had called him recently to get his opinion on her possible run for the White House. He said, “She said she would never run against me because I was the greatest president, but people change their opinions, and they change what’s in their hearts,” Trump said. “So I said, if your heart wants to do it, you have to go do it.”
Haley was the first female Governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, and the 29th United States Ambassador to the United Nations from January 2017 through December 2018. Since leaving that post, Haley and her husband bought a home on Kiawah Island and she serves on the board of aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co.
