Record Statewide Voter Turnout Monday in Georgia for Senate Runoff
The December 6th runoff in the Georgia Senate race between Democratic U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker is one week from today.
Thirty four of Georgia’s 159 counties had an extra day of early voting this past Saturday or Sunday, including Richmond County. All other counties in the state have 5 days of early voting this week that started yesterday.
State election officials say more than 301,000 registered voters cast a ballot statewide Monday, setting a single-day early voting record. In fact, officials say Monday’s turnout was even higher than single-day early voting totals during past presidential elections.
More than 11,000 people had already voted in Richmond County by the end of the day yesterday, while Columbia County logged more than 3,600 votes on the first day of voting there Monday.
Early voting continues this week in Richmond County at the Municipal Building, the Henry Brigham Center, the Warren Road Community Center and the Robert Howard Community Center. Hours are 8:30 am to 6 pm. In Columbia County, the two early voting locations include Building G-3 near the Evans Government Center and the former Euchee Creek Library in Grovetown. Those hours are 8 am to 6 pm.
Early voting ends statewide this Friday evening. There will be no early voting next Monday, December 5. Polls will be open on election day, December 6, from 7 am to 7 pm.
