Early Voting Turnout in Georgia Shattering Records
Just two days into the second week of early voting for the November 8 midterm elections, Georgians are turning out in record numbers to cast a ballot.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said as of mid-afternoon today, turnout at early voting sites has topped one million around the state. The November General Election is two weeks from today.
Speaking at a news conference today, Raffensperger said, “This isn’t a victory lap yet. We’re about halfway through the second quarter, but we need to encourage everyone to go out to vote and not discourage them. We need to let them know their vote will be counted and counted accurately, not that their vote will be stolen.”
Early voting will continue through November 4. Saturday voting will be available again this week, and 15 counties, including Richmond County, will offer Sunday voting this week.
Sunday voting will not be available in Columbia County.
Raffensperger said today overall turnout is expected to be over the 3.9 million recorded in Georgia in the last midterm election four years ago, but short of the 5 million that cast a ballot in the 2020 presidential election.
Turnout so far is 55% higher than at this point in the 2018 midterms, according to state election data.
Deputy Secretary of State Gabriel Sterling said today so far, female voters and those over 65 have been two of the highest-turnout demographic groups.
