Review; Sno-Cap
My review of the Sno-Cap begins with a funeral.
So, the father of one of my close friends passed away earlier this week, with the funeral being on Thursday. There is a group of us, we call ourselves “the core four” because we play golf with a lot of different people, but the four of us just find ourselves spending a lot of time together.
So, after the 11am funeral, we started thinking about lunch. We were downtown and there are numerous options. But, I’m always trying to think of something a bit different than the usual, so I thought of The Larder over in Hammonds Ferry. My buddy said he’d never been, so, perfect let’s go!
A problem developed when we pulled up to the restaurant only to see that they only do lunch on Saturdays. So much for that idea. We were in North Augusta and he suggested the Sno-Cap. Since moving here in 1984 the Sno-Cap has always been there, but over the last few years, it was purchased by members of a family we’ve known, almost since moving here, so I thought, “great, let’s go”.
It was a few minutes after noon on a Thursday and here’s the first thing you notice, you were NOT the only one with this idea. We were able to get a couple of spots at the counter, which was fine.
As tempted as I was by the sweets. maybe getting a milkshake, I decided to be good. Despite the crowd, our server was right there asking for our drink order and handing us menus.
We both decided on the same thing, the cheesy burger, each with different toppings and fries. Because of the amount of people, it took the food about twenty minutes to arrive, and that was fine, we weren’t really in a hurry and when it got to us it was great. The buns were fresh, as the menu says the beef is locally sourced and the fries were very good.
When she brought us our checks, there was also the option of shooting the QR CODE and paying for it with my phone. I immediately gravitated to that technology, my friend, over 70, reached into his pocket for his money.
It’s great to see small, family run businesses thrive. They do so on the shoulders of the owners and especially the people that work there each and every day. I always say this, whenever possible, we frequent them.
If you find yourself with the opportunity, don’t pass up the Sno-Cap in North Augusta.
