Stuckey’s Candy Plant In Wrens Georgia Is Getting A New Look!
Wrens is getting a brand-new mural! Artists from Atlanta and Athens were selected to paint murals on the wall at Stuckey’s Pecan Plant, which is a staple spot for the community.
This came about in partnership with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, which will fund the project. Stuckeys held requests for artists to submit proposals for the mural project. The project is projected to take place on two separate walls, one being pecan-themed and the other being a road trip theme – but with both being located on the exterior walls of the Stuckey’s Candy Plant.
Stuckey’s is a popular roadside attraction known for its Pecan Log Roll and other nut-based snacks. The candy plant is located at 705 S. Main Street in Wrens, Georgia. This past year in 2023, Stuckey in Wrens, Georgia decided to expand. The original Stcukeys, just a few hundred feet from the current plant now serves as a restraint.
The pecan theme represents a celebration of the pecan being America’s native nut, focusing on Georgia being the #1 producing state of pecans. The road trip theme celebrates Georgia’s roadside attractions.
The Stuckey’s Mural RFP winners, Color the World Bright, a student mural organization at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, University of Georgia, and Atlanta artist, Pash Lima. Pash Lima will be painting the ” Pecan Pride” mural while the UGA team will be painting the ” Road Trip Fun” mural.
Each artist selected will get a stipend to contribute to the mural – $15,000 for the rapid trip and $10,000 for the pecan mural. The stipend will not only cover high-quality materials but also cover travel and accommodations.
Murals are always a great way to bring a blank space to life. Many people riding through Wrens will appreciate this work of art coming to the city. Installation for the mural will take place May 1-30, 2024.
