My wife and I had the chance to take a road trip to Mount Airy, NC a few summers ago. In addition to the beautiful mountain views, Mount Airy is the hometown to rural American icon, Andy Griffith.

If you didn’t know, “The Andy Griffith Show” was a spin off of “The Danny Thomas Show” and continues to air in syndication today. We chose to go in the summer to avoid the fall crowds. The town is packed every September for Mayberry Days, a huge week long celebration of the show.

One of the things I love about the show is that music was a part of many of the episodes. Mr. Griffith held a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of North Carolina. In addition to receiving two Grammy nominations, he is in the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Oh, and there really is a Snappy Lunch! The fried porch chop sandwich is THE BEST, but arrive early!

Enjoys some pictures we took on our trip!
