There are a few things in life that will start a good heated conversation.  Politics, Religion, College Football, and Coke or Pepsi!  Yes, the battle over soda is very much you are wrong no matter which way ya go.  These are the top 10 sodas of all time and we are going to break them down.

The soda business worldwide is  $416.19 billion a year business. That’s over 180 billion aluminum cans/bottles filled with soda sold worldwide each year. That’s equivalent to 6,700 cans/bottles being sold every second.

Soda Facts

  • Argentina has the most soda consumption.
  • Coca-Cola is the most-sold soda in the world

Personally, I think the world for the most part is divided into two types of people.  Coke or Pepsi.  Now what you do from there takes on a whole new life.  Diet, Zero, Lemon Lime, Cherry, Fizzy Or Not Fizzy.  There are so many options.

The original recipe for Coke was initially sold as a patent medicine in soda fountain stores with the claim that it was a remedy for ailments including heartburn, nausea, and headaches.  The name Coca-Cola is from the original drink’s two primary ingredients: the coca leaf and the kola nut. Extract of the coca leaf was essentially cocaine, while the kola nut provided caffeine.

Pepsi was first invented in 1893 as “Brad’s Drink” by Caleb Bradham, who sold the drink at his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina.  It was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898.  “Pepsi” was also advertised to relieve indigestion.  So both of the world’s leading sodas started out as medication.  Now if you drink too much soda, it can put you on medication.

I’m team Coke all the way.  I’m a Coke Zero and Diet Coke junkie.  Can’t hide that fact.  I do love that most all sodas have branched out to do the Zero Sugar brands.  This allows more people to enjoy a soda that may not be able to due to health reasons.  The addition of cherry to the zero products has been a gift from the soda gods.

So what are the most popular sodas? Let’s find out.
