Richmond County bus drivers have completed dry runs of their routes as the school system prepares for students to return to the classroom on Wednesday and it wasn't all smooth sailing.

School district officials say the trial runs during the weekend were to ensure that all bus routes are safe in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

"Due to ongoing debris removal on roads across the county, some roads and neighborhoods are impassable for our buses. As a result, there will be changes to several bus routes, including alternate bus stop locations and delays to pick-up and drop-off time," according to a news release.

Richmond County Bus Route Changes Could Cause Delays

Families are being encouraged to drive their children to school, if possible, as the city works to clear debris along bus routes.

Those who will use bus transportation should check the Hurricane Helene landing page at www.rcboe.org/hurricanehelene with alternative bus stop locations starting Tuesday, October 15.

"We anticipate car and bus transportation delays as our families and bus drivers navigate routes over the next week. We understand this is an inconvenience, and we appreciate our families' patience as we all work to safely transport our students," according to the release.
