Evans High School is the latest to be mentioned in social media posts that some parents and students found concerning Tuesday.

Some parents voiced concerns about sending their children to school there today, but Evans High School Principal Wade White issued a reassuring statement first thing this morning.

"In an effort to keep you informed, we are notifying you of an unsubstantiated threat circulating on social media that has caused some to be concerned. At this time there has been no direct threat made to the school," said White.

Evans High School Official Says All Threats are Investigated

White said officials take every report seriously and each one is fully investigated, but said families are strongly encouraged to help stop the spread of misinformation by not sharing posts of that nature after they have been reported.

"Parents, please speak with your children about the seriousness of making threats, even in a joking manner, and the consequences that will follow," said White.

To Report a Threat or Suspicious Behavior

  • Report any suspicious behavior to a school administrator
  • Contact Columbia County School District Police at (706) 541-0650

Other School Threats on Social Media This Week

Two Aiken County students were implicated in a series of social media threats targeting middle schools in Aiken and North Augusta earlier this week.

On Monday, North Augusta Public Safety officials charged a 12-year-old student with Student Threats and Threatening a Public Official, one day after an 11-year-old was handed the same charges.

Investigators say the 12-year-old modified social media posts by the younger suspect, then re-circulated them.

The statement said both juveniles were referred to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
