Spooky season is here! And according to Lombardo Homes, the first week of October is when the majority of people decorate. In fact, 39% of Americans plan to decorate at some point this week, while others will wait til a little closer.  But when it comes to the most popular Halloween decorations, Georgia and South Carolina seem to agree!

Halloween Research

Lombardo Homes analyzed data from Halloween decoration searches on Google to see each state's favorite decoration.  They also polled homeowners to determine trends when it comes to decorating- including when to decorate and how much they'll spend.

While Georgia and South Carolina may not always agree on things... one thing we do agree on?  The most popular Halloween decorations! According to Lombardo Homes' research, spiders are the decoration of choice for both states.

Halloween Plans

This year, 71 percent of Americans are planning to decorate for Halloween.  Most of this is inside (69%), but the front door (63%) and the yard/exterior of the home (56%)  are also popular! And while some people do decorate before October, the largest group will decorate this week (October 1-7).  The average time Americans will spend decorating is around 3 hours.

When it comes to Halloween spending, the average is around $61. But, because of inflation, 49% of Americans will spend less on both decorations and candy.

Spooky or Cute?

As for the type of decorations we prefer? 55% prefer scary, 41% like fun and cutesy, while a mere 4% like gory décor. Overall, a major of people are fans of "spooky season" (84%). Many people enjoy driving around to check out Halloween displays, and just under a third of people go all in to dress up to hand out candy!

Most people expect around the same amount of trick-or-treaters this year, but one in 6 think there will be fewer kids out this year.
