Two Augusta homicides have been reported since Wednesday night with both still under investigation.

This morning, Richmond County deputies were called to Elliott Park in the 2000 block of Lumpkin Road where a body was found just after 7 am.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen identified the victim as 59-year-old Michael Whitfield of Augusta. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:10 am.

Investigators said the victim had sustained blunt force trauma. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Wednesday night, Richmond County deputies responded to a call of shots fired and one person down in the 2300 block of Helsinki Drive in south Augusta.

When deputies arrived at 6:23 pm, they found a male who had been shot at least one time. He was taken to Wellstar MCG where he died as a result of his injuries.

He has since been identified as 15-year-old Devayn Grissam of Augusta, according to Coroner Mark Bowen.

"While deputies were at the hospital, another male subject arrived with at least one gunshot wound," according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators, at the time, didn't know if the two incidents were related.
