Today is National French Fry Day, so I wanted to share my top 5 French fries (be sure to vote for your favorites down below). I love potatoes in every form. When it comes to dining out, my side item is almost always going to be some type of potato.

Potatoes are incredibly versatile.  You can enjoy them mashed, baked, or fried.  When it comes to French fries, you’ve got a variety of cuts: shoestring, waffle, crinkle, steak, and curly.  And you can’t forget about toppings!  The most important thing for me? Salt.  I know it’s not the healthiest, but I don’t enjoy my potatoes as much without a decent amount of salt.  Then you’ve got cheese, which I’ll never turn down!  There are also chili cheese fries and vinegar fries, and some people enjoy dipping their fries in a Frosty at Wendy’s.

So when it comes to the best French fries… well, that’s always going to be a debate! Everyone has a preference.  Some people like their fries more on the crispy side, whereas I like mine on the soft side.  I also know some people who hate when fries are cut with the skin on. But it doesn’t matter to me!  I’m the type that will eat the entire baked potato – skin and all. The only thing I don’t like when it comes to fries are the ones that have black spots in them.  You know, the ones where the potato had a bad spot in it? Those are for sure going in the trash!

Ketchup? Mayo? Ranch?  No, thank you!  I don’t dip my fries in anything… usually.  But I have been known to dip them in a good hot sauce.  Or order a side of cheese sauce to dip them in… YUM!

At most fast-food places, fries are the most common side item.  So I started thinking about my top 5 French fries.  It’s a tough decision for me because I just really love fries.  But I tried to narrow down my selection to just 5.  And to be honest, putting these in order is pretty tough too! But here we go… here are my top 5 French fries!

  • Chick-fil-A Waffle Fries

While I typically prefer fries that are softer… there’s just something about the Chick-fil-A Waffle Fries!  And I know some people don’t like the “turtle backs” but I’m going to eat every single waffle fry.  You know I have a love for hot sauce, right?  Well, I’ve been known to dip my waffle fries in the Buffalo sauce from Chick-fil-A… So good!

  • Five Guys Cajun Fries

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they cut their fries fresh every day… but there’s just something special about fries at Five Guys! I love that these are on the softer side typically.  And I do like the cajun seasoning these use on them.  I don’t eat at Five Guys often, but I do love those fries.

  • Red Robin Steak Fries

I love steak fries, and Red Robin’s are some of my favorite.  Of course, the softer ones are my favorite!  I also like the seasoning they have that you can add to the fries.  And on top of that… they are bottomless!

  • Arby's Curly Fries

Curly fries are so good.  These fries at Arby’s are seasoned perfectly.  My family loves cheese, right?  Well, growing up, when we’d order at Arby’s we always requested a side of the cheese sauce they put on the Beef n’ Cheddar sandwiches… and we’d dip our curly fries in that.  Oh yes, it’s delicious.  Haven’t had that in a while though!

  • McDonald's French Fries

The list wouldn’t be complete without McDonald’s fries!  They are almost iconic.  When they’re fresh with just the right amount of salt, these fries hit just right!
