Head to any store right now, and you're guaranteed to find an array of pastel-colored items. Head to the candy aisle, and you'll see pastel candies, candy-coated eggs, gummies, marshmallow birds and more. So many options to fill the Easter baskets!

Easter is coming up on Sunday, April 17th. So, you still have time to pick out the perfect candies, toys and more to fill those eggs and Easter baskets.

Bunnies and eggs are the two most common symbols when it comes to Easter.  Delish points out these are symbols or rebirth and fertility, which led them to being connected to the Christian holiday.

Dyeing Easter eggs is also a common practice around the holiday.  It started back in the 13th century! Apparently Edward I of England had 450 eggs dyed and covered in gold leaf.  These were then distributed among the "royal entourage." The act of bringing eggs as a gift became common in that century after that. Giving eggs mostly to children didn't become a practice until later in the 19th and 20th century.

So let's get back to CANDY! When did it become associated with Easter? The Catholic practice of giving up something for Lent ends upon the arrival of Easter.  And since many people gave up sweets, or other foods, the holiday became a celebration of being able to enjoy those things again. In fact, Easter is the 3rd most popular holiday for candy in the U.S. Halloween and Christmas are the first two.

Delish compiled a list of all the best Easter candies.  We decided to do our own list, and a few of theirs make the list!  Check out Delish's list of 44 Easter Candies You Need in Your Basket This Year.
