There are still a few weeks left to go in 2022.  But if you're thinking ahead, and planning to do some traveling in 2023, check this out! Conde Nast Traveler released their new list of the Best Places to Go in the US in 2023.  In the past few years, international travel was disrupted and became more difficult. So, why not stick to national travel? And you might be surprised to see which Georgia town made the Best Places To Go list!

Here are a few from their Instagram, but scroll down to see the Georgia town on the list, along with a few other destinations!

Macon, Georgia

That's right!  Macon, Georgia made Conde Nast Travelers' list for Best Places to Go in the US in 2023. One reason includes the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historic Park expected to be declared the newest U.S. national park in 2023. It's a unique area with earthwork mounds that were built around 900 CE.  There are artifacts from the Mississippi culture and Muscogee Nation as well. Macon will be celebrating their bicentennial in 2023, honoring the original Native American inhabitants and the enslaved people who helped build the city.

There has also been a lot of growth in Macon with new businesses, bars, live music venues, and restaurants too.

There's also the new Woodward Hotel that opened in October:

And a historic boutique hotel, the Hotel Forty Five:

Memphis, Tennessee

Nashville is usually the destination most people consider when heading to Tennessee.  But Memphis has really grown a lot in the past decade, and they've invested billions in revitalization projects.

Their Tom Lee Park is getting an upgrade and reopening downtown in 2023.  They also host a month-long festival, Memphis in May, to celebrate the city's culture with the Beale Street Music Festival and the World Championship Barbecue Contest.

The Everglades, Florida

Everglades National park is the third-largest in the country. It's nearly 20,000 acres, and is celebrating it's 75th anniversary. There are a wide variety of experiences: airboat rides, hiking, camping in Seminole-style chickees, and more.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Virginia Beach has a three-mile boardwalk that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.  And they have the world's longest pleasure beach, and world's longest continually run surfing competition. The area also has many great historic sites as well.  The Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships will celebrate its 61st year.  There's also a new surf park that is being built in the area as well.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is a beautiful, historic town that has recently seen a new wave of restaurants and shops after the pandemic. Whether it's Italian, seafood, or simply a great sandwich, you'll discover a wide variety of restaurant options. They also have a multi-level independent bookstore, with a children's room that features a toy train that passes overhead. And of course, there are many historic sites to visit as well.
