Du you know how “America The Beautiful” was born? I remember learning the words and singing the song in first grade, but never learned it as a poem. Did you know it was a poem?

It was originally entitled, “Pike’s Peak.” It was printed as “America” in the Fourth of July 1895 edition of the church periodical, The Congregationalist.

The song as we know it today was written by Samuel A. Ward. I’m sure you have a favorite version. I have several on my playlist.

Enjoy some of my favorites. Have a wonderful 4th of July!
