When Babe Ruth retired from baseball in 1935, I doubt he ever thought one of the gloves he played with would sell at an auction. Now, almost 100 years later Mr. Ruth is still setting records again.

A glove that he used while playing for the New York Yankees sold at auction on Saturday. Hunt Auctions reports that the glove sold for $1.5 million, a new record.

According to Fox Business, Babe Ruth had given the glove to a St. Louis Browns player named Jimmy Austin. The Austin family kept the glove until Saturday.

The article says that Austin shared the story of how he came into possession of what would become a piece of baseball history. “So I asked the Baby, Babe you got an old worn-out glove for me you could spare? He said by God I have you. He came out with it and I said this is a new one I don’t want this,” Austin told Author Lawrence Ritter in a recording that was published by Hunt Auctions.

Hunt Auctions is always adding new things to their featured items. Their next online auction is November 30. You can click here for information.

Here are some other cool sports memorabilia items that have been auctioned.
