Fall is my favorite season of the year. One of our favorite family activities is scoping out the best pumpkin patches. This year will be our first Halloween and Thanksgiving. I’ll get to a list of area pumpkin patches in a moment. Let’s start with the fun you can have with pumpkins.
There are so many things you can do with pumpkins. You can cook, decorate, carve, and event CHUNK! Did you know that there is a festival in North Carolina for chunking pumpkins?
Each year, thousands of tourists visit Hayesville, NC for the Punkin Chunkin Festival.
According to the website, this year’s Punkin Chunkin weekend will begin on Friday, October 15th with the “Anything Pumpkin” and Chili Cook-off competition on the Historic Hayesville Square starting at 6 pm.
The main festival is Saturday and Sunday in nearby Brasstown. They take it seriously. No hand tossing or “chunkin”. Catapults, air cannons, trebuchets are just a few of the machines used. If you want family fun, here are plenty of events. Pie-eating contests, live entertainment, food and craft vendors. Old Time Tractors will be on display with hay rides, as well as airplane rides.
Back to the list of places to get you pumpkins. I’m not sure if we will get to visit all of them, but there are plenty to choose from.
