About 35 students from universities across Georgia join the program during each legislative session. The interns witness the legislative process up close.
Students live in Atlanta throughout their paid internship. Each day brings different tasks. They might track legislation one morning, help constituents after lunch, or assist with media relations. Some days, they sit in committee meetings. Other times, they draft bill summaries.
"I am immensely proud of these students and their selection for the Georgia Legislative Internship Program," said Augusta University President Russell T. Keen, according to Jagwire.
The program operates during each legislative session. Interns collaborate with state lawmakers and their staff members.
Universities throughout Georgia put forward candidates. Competition for positions is fierce. Only so many spots open each year. The three AU representatives will complete their internships when this legislative session concludes.
