The Target at 2545 Whiskey Road in Aiken is staying open while getting a makeover. According to the Aiken Standard, a Target Corporation spokesperson confirmed this on Jan. 12, 2026.

This is a part of Target's bigger initiative to open new and larger stores this year as well as update their existing stores. Target plans to spend around $5 billion this year to improve their markets around the country.

The work will bring a bigger grocery section to shoppers, who'll find fresh produce, meat, and dairy when crews finish. Pantry items and daily needs will fill the shelves too.

Target plans to put in new decor and fixtures throughout the building. Special LED lights will brighten the space, creating a shopping experience that feels modern yet welcoming.

New areas will make order pickup easier, and drive-up service will get better. Merchandise displays will pop up in various spots, with dedicated zones showing off Disney and Apple products.

Restrooms will receive touchless upgrades like hand dryers. Mothers will have a private nursing room.

“An elevated store experience also means meeting our guests when and where and how they want to shop,” said Michael Fiddelke, Target’s incoming CEO, to CoStar. “To do this, we’re reconfiguring the role each of our stores plays within the market to optimize fulfillment, speed and capabilities, and in the process, also better supporting the in-store shopping experience.”

A sign at the Southside location tells customers the doors are open despite the construction happening inside. The upgrades should wrap up by summer.
