Getty ImagesThe Rotary Club of Aiken purchased 38 generators for residents who needed them. They pooled $26,000 from three sources: a $22,500 grant, a $2,000 club donation, and $1,500 from the United Way of Aiken County. These generators went to people with disabilities or medical conditions that put them at risk when the power goes out.
Rotary International Zones 33/34 Disaster Recovery Fund supplied the grant money. With these funds, the club bought 38 Westinghouse generators, 38 heavy-duty 50-foot extension cords, and 76 cans of fuel. Tim Newman, the organization's treasurer, confirmed the purchases.
Twenty-five clients from Tri-Development Center of Aiken County got generators, along with five clients from Aiken Senior Life Services, five clients from Project Vision, and five clients from The Rotary Club of Aiken-Sunrise.
Ryan Jackson of Jackson Electrical Services ran a training session on Oct. 28, 2025. It took place at the United Way's Sharon L. Rodgers Community Resource Center. Attendees learned how to set up the generators when they arrived at homes.
Rotary Club of Aiken President Keyatta Priester discussed the delivery process during the meeting. Rotary District 7750 Governor Dave Brenner spoke at the gathering too.
According to Aiken Standard, Priester said the club applied for the grant because "we saw an opportunity to be able to help members of our community."
