Carolina's tight 30-27 win against Dallas put them briefly in second until Atlanta's Monday night triumph changed everything.
The path gets harder for Atlanta, with a prime-time clash with San Francisco next on their schedule, followed by back-to-back games against Indianapolis and Los Angeles.
