A planned road in Aiken, South Carolina, aims to cut Whiskey Road traffic by nearly one-fifth when it opens in 2026. The new street, Tribute Parkway, will shift cars away from the packed East Pine Log Road area.

Workers have finished about a third of the first building phase. Construction teams now focus on the section between East Pine Log Road and Powderhouse Road, where most cars stack up.

"The roadway is designed at full build-out to eliminate traffic on Whiskey Road by up to 18%," Stuart Bedenbaugh, manager for the City of Aiken, said, according to WRDW.

Monday showed why better roads matter. A crash near Hitchcock Drive blocked Whiskey Road for four hours. Shop owners shared that they are seeing more car crashes occur in that location each year.

City leaders met Tuesday to pick names for two traffic circles on the new road.
