A body was discovered early this morning on Sassafras Road at Edgefield Road in Aiken County.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables was called to the scene at 5:45 a.m.
Deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office responded after getting a call at 5:28 a.m. that a body had been found.
Ables says the victim was identified as 36-year-old Darrelle Wheeler.
"Mr. Wheeler did have a traumatic injury to his upper chest and will be autopsied in Newberry next week to determine his cause and manner of death," said Ables.
The Coroner's Office along with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
Separate Incident Involving Hit-And-Run Reported
In a separate incident this morning, the Aiken Department of Public Safety said it was investigating a hit-and-run near the 400 block of York Street NE.
It's not known if anyone was injured.
