Augusta Christian Schools is moving forward with plans to build a new elementary campus. The new two-story building will cover 55,000 square feet on a five acre plot at 316 Baston Road in Martinez.

Located between residential properties on Revere Place and nearby businesses, the new facility will include modern classrooms with a multi-purpose gym for school activities as the centerpiece.

John Capes' real estate group, Baston Village LLC, has held the property since 2007. The Columbia County Planning Commission will review the necessary zoning changes for the project on April 17.

The school's main campus at 313 Baston Road currently serves 550 students from second through 12th grade. A separate building houses 90 kindergarten and first grade students.

The school was established in 1958. After a fire destroyed its Richmond County facility in 1978, it relocated to its current Columbia County location.
