The massive 118,000-square-foot Kroger at Eisenhower Crossing in Augusta was awarded the 2025 CoStar Impact Award for its help with alleviating local food desert issues.
This Kroger is located at 3942 Harper Franklin Ave. and includes a clothing section, Murray's Cheese shop, fresh sushi, pickup areas, and a gas station.
Augusta's food access problems got worse after two key stores shut down. When the 15th Street location closed in 2017, followed by the Deans Bridge Road store, many downtown and south Augusta residents lost their main place to buy fresh food.
The Augusta Economic Development Authority helped with the site work. Victor Smith, who used to lead the division, worked with Augusta Commission members Catherine Smith McKnight and Don Clark to make the project happen.
This award comes during big changes at Kroger. A judge blocked their $25 billion Albertsons merger in December 2024, and CEO Rodney McMullen quit in March 2025 during an investigation into his behavior.
