Augusta University has been honored by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025 list of the Best Colleges rankings just released today.

A-U earned recognition as one of the most improved schools nationally, climbing 36 spots over last year's ranking.

A-U has nine colleges with nearly 10,000 students, 1,000 faculty members and 5,000 staff members.

Each year, U.S. News & World Report evaluates nearly 1,500 colleges and universities and ranks them using up to 17 measures of academic quality.

"By considering factors such as social mobility and post-graduate success, we aim to help students choose schools that not only provide a quality education, but also prepare them for a successful fulfilling future," said LaMont Jones, Ed.D., managing editor for Education at U.S. News.

For 40 years, U.S. News & World Report has produced the Best Colleges rankings to serve as a helpful guide to prospective students and their families when considering colleges and universities.

Augusta University Among Several in the State Named in the Publication

  • Emory University ranked the highest Georgia school, coming in at #24 on the list of top national universities. (same as last year and tied with 2 others)
  • Georgia Tech: 33 (same as last year)
  • University of Georgia: 46 (moved up one position and tied with 4 other schools)
  • Mercer University: 165 (up 5 spots from last year)
  • Georgia State University: 196 (up 31 spots)
  • Augusta University: 296 (up 36 spots)
  • Georgia Southern University: 343
  • Clark Atlanta University: 352
  • University of West Georgia: 371
  • Valdosta State, Brenau and Kennesaw State: 392-434

Georgia's Historically Black Colleges and Universities Ranked

  • Spelman College: #1 nationwide. It's held the top spot for more than a decade
  • Morehouse College: #5 nationwide
  • Clark Atlanta: 19 (up 2 spots)
  • Fort Valley State: 35
  • Albany State: 40
  • Savannah State University: 51
  • Paine College in Augusta: in the 70-77 range

Georgia Tech, Emory University and Spelman College were among the Georgia schools that stood out in the annual rankings of the nation's top colleges.

Emory and Mercer Universities made the list of the "Best Value Schools" among national universities, and Emory finished at the top spot for its undergraduate nursing program.

"Giving the rising cost of higher education, it's more important that ever that students and their families have access to the information that U.S. News Best Colleges provides," said Eric Gertler, executive chairman and CEO of U.S. News.
