Funeral arrangements have been announced for a Greenbrier High School student killed in a single vehicle wreck last week in Evans.

Just days shy of his 16th birthday, Gordon Carmichael died when the car he was driving crashed into a tree on Riverwood Parkway, not far from the school.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says the accident is believed to have occurred around 4:30 am on September 19.

A passerby called the Sheriff's Office after discovering the wreckage. Carmichael, who was a sophomore at Greenbrier, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Students, faculty and staff gathered around the flag pole in front of the school the morning after the accident to pray for Carmichael.

There was also a moment of silence in Carmichael's memory at Friday night's football game at Greenbrier.
