Second Threat to Aiken County Public Schools Made By 12-Year-Old
A second threat to the Aiken County Public School District since Sunday has resulted in the arrest of a 12-year-old student today.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says investigators found the juvenile suspect had modified an existing threat to schools and began circulating it.
The original threat was posted to social media by an 11-year-old student on Sunday. Aiken Public Safety officials were notified of the threat that targeted several middle schools in North Augusta and Aiken. Investigators were able to trace the threats to the 11-year-old, who was taken into custody and charged with Student Threats and Threatening a Public Official.
Second Threat Results in Another Juvenile Arrest
“It is alleged that the juvenile suspect in today’s investigation added to the threat from yesterday’s case,” according to Captain Eric Abdullah.
The 12-year-old arrested today was also charged with Student Threats and Threatening a Public Official. The student was referred to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
“We are grateful to the citizens that alerted school officials and law enforcement. Our office will continue to work closely with the Aiken County Public School District to ensure a safe learning environment for students, teachers and staff,” said Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt.
Hunt said the investigations are on-going and any updates will be released if there are new developments.
