Georgia Governor To Attend Ribbon Cutting For Multimetal Recycling Plant In Augusta
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will be in Augusta this Friday, September 20, to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for Aurubis Richmond, multimetal recycling plant in Augusta.
The $800 million first-of-its-kind plant is in Augusta Corporate Park on Mike Padgett Highway.
Georgia Governor Will Join Other Dignataries for the Ceremony
Aurubis AG CEO Toralf Haag will join Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp in participating in the ceremony at 11 am.
The cutting-edge facility will process more than 180,000 tons of complex recycling materials each year. those metals are used in everything from mobile phones to computers and even electric vehicles.
Aurubis Richmond will employ an estimated 200 people in Augusta.
Aurubis Richmond Broke Ground in 2022 in Augusta
The state-of-the-art plant will have a capacity of about 90,000 tons of complex recycling materials. It’s located on 100 acres in Augusta Corporate Park.
First Lady Jill Biden visited the plant in November, 2023, while she was in Augusta as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda.
Aurubis Richmond has pledged to a community benefit agreement with Augusta and Aiken Technical Colleges, as well as the Richmond County School System, to invest more than $200,000 in scholarships and job training programs for young workers over the next five years.
Aurubis Richmond is also credited for promoting women in the metal industry with its international Women4Metals initiative.
