Austin talks about Columbia County being labeled a sanctuary city because they are apparently "failing to cooperate with ICE."

Transcript:

Austin: That old saying goes, "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names can never hurt me." And they mean that most of the time. Except, of course, if the name really hurts and you're a conservative community like Columbia County and you're being accused of being something less than a conservative community.

Boy, there was a lot of rhubarb yesterday when word got out that an internet group had labeled Columbia County a sanctuary city because they apparently are failing to cooperate with ICE. That's the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, the folks that chase after illegal immigrants. How in the world did this happen?

Nothing in the world is further from the truth. Conservative Columbia County stands very strongly by American law and the tenets of the Republican Party, and that we do not tolerate illegal immigrants hanging out in our area. And we do whatever we possibly can to make sure that they are taken into custody when they are breaking the law or when they're wanted by immigration officials. Right?

Well, the Center for Immigration Studies, an independent, nonpartisan organization, listed Columbia County on its 2024 report for sanctuary cities because ICE call them that. How did it happen? Good question. Nobody seems to know.

It got the attention of the county administrator yesterday and the county attorney, who apparently are in communication with the organization, and they're trying to find out how this errant label applied. Supposedly there was a case some time ago where the communication was not as crystal clear as it could have been, supposedly. Not sure what the details are still trying to get to the bottom of it.

But the bottom line is there are absolutely no policies in Columbia County that should result in the label of us being a sanctuary city. That is a no no, a nasty thing. You should never, ever, ever call Columbia County a sanctuary city. That's like calling me a Cleveland Browns fan or suggesting that John Patrick cheats in golf. No no no no no.

Many things you can say about Austin Rhodes and John Patrick, but I am not a Cleveland Browns fan and John does not cheat in golf, and Columbia County, not a sanctuary city. Take it to the bank and we'll continue to update you on this.
