Austin talks about the teen who was speeding in Blythe and made the decision to run from the police instead of pulling over, which resulted in a deadly accident.

Austin: Last Friday night. While many of us were enjoying high school football all across the CSRA, there was a real tragedy unfolding in South Richmond County right around 8:30.
A young man with very little experience behind the wheel of a car decided to run from police rather than be pulled over for a ticket. He was speeding in the Blythe area. The officer that was in the process of trying to pull the young man over did hit blue lights and followed him for a short distance before the young man skipped across lanes into oncoming traffic and went more than a mile the wrong way down again an expressway, before running head on into an individual and killing himself and two other young people in his car.
Folks, we have got to do a much better job at communicating with our young people how imperative it is that they pull over when they see a blue light in the rearview mirror. I’m not going to get into the ridiculous claims that this police officer did anything wrong. The Georgia State Patrol has cleared him completely. And according to everything that we’ve seen and heard, the officer followed procedures by the book.
The young man was speeding excessively when the blue lights were hit. He immediately made the decision to run. He crossed two lanes of traffic and got into a wrong way freeway situation before the head on collision that took the lives of himself and two of his young passengers. Absolutely tragic.
It is up to us moms and dads to literally beat into the heads of our young people behind the wheel of a car. Do not run from police, ever. You’re going to get caught. You never get away with it. And chances are you’re going to get into a hell of a lot more trouble if you survive the incident.
God bless the families of those involved. Terrible situation. And God bless the officer who was only doing the right thing when he was trying to keep the rest of the motorists in that area safe. And that’s the comment. I’m Austin Rhodes, 95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
