Austin talks about high school football starting tonight in the CSRA, and the efforts to have middle school and JV games moved to later in the evenings.

Austin: As Ashley Brown has been telling us, high school football kicks off in a big way here in the CSRA tonight. Wanna send a shout-out to all of the players and cheerleaders and band members wishing them a very good and safe year. Also a shout out to the parents who work so hard as volunteers.
Last week it was my wife’s turn to take duty in the concession stand. My goodness gracious, that is quite an experience. If you haven’t done that, you’re really missing out. Again, it takes a whole lot of volunteers, a whole lot of folks, to put football season together in so many different ways.
I also want to thank the coaches who give far more than, you know, their hourly, work duty as far as 40 hours a week goes to getting these teams ready to go. And of course, finally, to the young men out on the field that are sacrificing a lot of personal comfort to get things done in the hot August sun. Here’s also to hoping that, some of our local school systems are going to see the light when it comes to scheduling their JV and middle school football games much later in the evening.
If you have not been keeping up with it on the afternoon shift, I have finally secured with the director of the Georgia High School Association clearance that JV football games can in fact start later than 6:30 on school nights. That had been a long-standing rule. It has been changed and it’s time that we get the local school systems to start allowing junior varsity football teams to start their games at 7 or 7:30. It’ll help out with the heat that will help out with the traffic congestion getting to the games.
And oh, same for middle school. The clearances there. Get those games moved to 7 or 7:30 as soon as you can. That’s all of our local school systems in Georgia need to do that. In the meantime, have a great year. Have a safe year. Go team. I hope your favorite team wins. Unless of course, they’re playing my favorite team. And that’s the comment. I’m Austin Rhodes 95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
