Second Arrest Made in 10th and Broad Shooting
A second arrest has been made in connection with the early Saturday morning shooting at 10th and Broad Streets that left three people injured.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Seven D. Whitfield was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
The second arrest follows the initial one of 19-year-old Amazing Lee Blessed Brigham of Hephzibah, who was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
Around 1:13 am June 8, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 10th and Broad Streets. Three off-duty deputies working special assignments at businesses nearby heard the gunshots and responded quickly.
They said they saw a male suspect with an assault rifle who had opened fire into a crowd of people, striking two of them. It all reportedly started with a gunfight between multiple suspects.
Deputies returned fire, striking one of the suspects, later identified as Brigham. All three who were injured were taken to Wellstar MCG where they were treated for non life-threatening injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called and released a statement on Sunday.
“This area of Broad Street had heavy pedestrian traffic due to the many bars and restaurants. The deputies heard multiple gunshots. The gunfire outside of the restaurant was between the suspect and multiple other unidentified individuals and this gunfight covered an area of two to three blocks.”
Investigators said multiple weapons were found at the scene and at least seven vehicles were damaged by gunfire.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard in an officer-involved shooting.
