Shooting at Hardees on Jimmie Dyess Parkway Leads to One Arrest
A shooting at Hardees today on Jimmie Dyess Parkway near the Wrightsboro Road intersection started with an argument between two friends.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says two regular customers met for lunch at Hardees around noon. They reportedly got into an argument in the parking lot, but one of the men walked away and headed inside the restaurant.
Investigators said the other followed, thinking the issue had been resolved. That’s when the man who entered first pulled out a gun, pointed it at the other and fired at least two shots. No one inside was injured.
The man who was unarmed ran to a gas station nearby and called 911.
The suspect, identified as 51 year old Servey Kleyman, was still there when deputies arrived. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
Saturday Shooting Downtown Still Under Investigation
The shooting at Hardees comes just 3 days after shots were fired downtown at 10th and Broad Streets, leaving 3 people injured.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Amazing Lee Blessed Brigham of Hephzibah, allegedly fired shots at least one other person on the sidewalk in front of a busy restaurant. Shots were also fired into a crowd that had gathered, injuring two bystanders.
Some deputies working a special off-duty assignment nearby heard the gunshots and responded quickly. They fired shots at Brigham, wounding him. All three were taken to Wellstar MCG for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
The GBI was called to investigate. They said multiple weapons were recovered at the scene, but they haven’t said what started the fight. Several vehicles and nearby businesses were damaged during the shooting.
The deputies who responded to the shooting and returned fire have been placed on administrative leave with pay. Sheriff Richard Roundtree said their quick response and action undoubtedly saved lives.
