Storms are Expected in Augusta Early Thursday Morning
Storms are expected in Augusta starting around 6:00 Thursday morning. Not great timing with the first round of the 88th Masters Tournament scheduled to get underway, but the good news is any storms we get should move out of the area by early afternoon.
The National Weather Service says we should expect heavy rain, thunderstorms and damaging winds, but the threat of isolated tornadoes remains slim at this point. The rain is expected to arrive tonight and continue into Thursday morning throughout the CSRA. Sustained winds should be in the teens, but wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour are likely. The rain will start tonight, but the thunderstorms are expected Thursday between 6 am and 11 am.
It’s the wind gusts that could potentially pull down some trees and power lines, so you need to remain alert.
Storms are expected in Augusta in the morning, but forecasters say any heavy rain and storms shouldn’t wash out the first round of play. The good news is, once that storm system moves out of the area mid to late morning, weather for the rest of the Master Tournament should be spectacular.
