UGA Students Who Saved 3 in Burke County to be on GMA
UGA students who saved 3 in Burke County after their car rolled into a creek in Burke County last month are set to be honored next week on Good Morning America.
The 5 freshman women were on their way to Savannah March 15 when they witnessed a white SUV veer into Brier Creek in Sardis in Burke County after a crash. The vehicle was already partially submerged when Jane McArdle, Molly McCollum, Eleanor Cart, Clarke Jones and Kaitlyn Iannace quickly turned around and headed to the scene of the crash.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says the UGA students who saved 3 never hesitated, jumped into the water and pulled Cori Craft and her children from the car.
Craft’s youngest child had been under water several minutes, and Jones performed CPR on him as soon as he was pulled out.
Craft told authorities later that she really wanted to meet the women face-to-face to thank them for what they did to save their lives. Craft got her wish. She recently met with all 5 of them.
“We are overjoyed to share the news of the heartwarming reunion between the incredible University of Georgia students, and the mother and children they bravely saved from a harrowing car accident. Their story of courage and quick action touched the hearts of many, and today we celebrate their reunion–a true testament to the power of human kindness and selflessness,” said the Burke County Sheriff’s Office in a post today on Facebook.
The 5 Heroes will be on Good Morning America
The Sheriff’s Office also announced in the Facebook post that the women’s heroic actions will be featured in a segment on Good Morning America on April 10 on ABC.
UGA recognized the students March19 on campus with a proclamation from University President Jere Morehead.
“I am so proud of these heroic students and their exemplary act of courage and teamwork,” said Morehead.
