Aiken County Sheriff's Office

A North Augusta murder suspect surrenders, but a second person accused in the crime is still on the loose.

Shirlette Hayes and Stephon Xzavier Dunbar were named the suspects in the March 27 murder of 32-year-old Tavaris Burley.

Deputies responded to a home in the 900 block of Old Aiken Road in North Augusta where they found a man face down next to a car.  Burley had been shot multiple times and died at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office says Hayes turned herself in to authorities Wednesday night.   She was charged with Murder, Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Crime and is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.  Dunbar is still at-large.

Witness Reports From March 27

Witnesses to the shooting told investigators that Dunbar had left a home on Old Aiken Road and allegedly started shooting at Burley before he and Hayes fled from the scene.

No information on a motive was ever given and it's not known if there was a previous connection between Burley, Hayes and Dunbar.  The investigation is still ongoing, according to the Sheriff's Office.
